Don't miss live graffiti art, a pop-up cinema and a Guinness World Records attempt for the most number of children being read a story. You'll find heaps of craft, a vintage tea tent and a local ale bar. Started in 2003 as a protest against the Iraq war, it's a charity fundraiser with a relaxed atmosphere.? Discover the history of the garden, woodlands and the unusual heritage of the hall. It is affordable fine dining in a sumptuous setting with much of the produce coming from the hall's kitchen gardens which are cultivated by Sheffield's own urban farm, Heeley City. Our War, Just Do It and Condition One address politics; Senna is the story of Brazilan Formula One champion Aryton Senna; Jig deals with Irish dancing; and Seven Dwarves is about seven dwarves who star in panto with Snow White. Werner Herzog's Oscar-nominated Encounters at the End of the World is a must-see, shown outside on the grass of Devonshire Green at 1pm on 11 June.? This year the Crucible theatre is offering magical tours of the back rooms of the venue; local classical Ensemble 360 are taking part in numerous events; Sheffield children have made glowing, underwater sculptures for the Winter Gardens; download details of a city centre adventure trail on your smartphone; and a series of school shows include Midsummer Night's Dream and Billy Elliot the Musical. Ordinary folk get the chance to try rock climbing, mountain biking, skate boarding, adventure racing, running and orienteering next to elite competitions and professional demos. If you've ever been to Stanage Edge, a climbers' haven and the city's doorstep to the Peak District, you'll know why Sheffield is the obvious choice for this particular cliff hanger.? You can certainly try something new in the festival producers market, with the launch of a Sheffield Food Showcase where all the artisan foods are 100% produced in the city. Among the feast of other events, lookout for a city centre farm and an Eat the World area in the Peace Gardens with pop-up restaurants and a festival picnic. Other attractions include chef demos, ale trails and cookery classrooms. There'll also be offers, themed menus and tastings in restaurants, cafes and bars.? Mostly free, various venues, sheffieldfoodfestival.comKid Acne: Kill Your Darlings, Millennium Gallery, 21 July-23 OctoberUrban artist Kid Acne is hosting his first solo exhibition in his home city and word on the street is he's created new works especially for the show. His graffiti murals spring up everywhere from Sheffield's Parkhill Flats to Azerbaijan. Some of his most iconic illustrations, sculpture and a live-action short film will mark the journey of his career. There are some great opportunities to meet the star of the show at a Museums Late evening event to kick start Tramlines on 22 July (see below), or at a printmaking master class (28 August). Imagine the Edinburgh Fringe, only all music rather than theatre. Thanks to the support of the council most of the gigs are free and every pub and music venue has live bands and a number of public spaces host outdoor stages. You can wander from venue to venue, although the most popular spots have queues. Expect a rootsy vibe full of up-and-comers plus the likes of Ash, Toddla T, Futureheads and Rolo Tomassi at the top.? Mostly free, various venues, tramlines.org.ukThe Froggatt Show, 27 AugustNear the city centre, and actually in Derbyshire, this tiny Peaks village plays host to a quintessential country fair. English countryside doesn't get much more scenic than this, with riverside pastures, National Trust woodland and a lofty grit-stone edge. As well as choirs, brass bands and craft stalls, there's a hotly fought competition for the best produce, flowers and vegetables, plus an abundance of brightly-coloured, classic tractors.? More info to come at derbyshireuk.net/froggatt.htmlArt in the Gardens, 3-4 SeptemberSheffield Botanical Gardens is one of the most picturesque outdoor venues in the city centre and during the summer you're spoilt for choice when it comes to art, music and theatre events, both in the gardens and the Victorian greenhouses. The summer calendar culminates with Art in the Gardens, the largest outdoor art exhibition in the north of England, with a wealth of UK artists and craft makers.
