Mountainfilm in Telluride

Mountainfilm, which started in Telluride in 1979, is on of the longest standing film festivals in the country. Since the '70s, it?s become a platform for some truly badass action sports, environmental, and cultural films. Yes, I said badass environmental films. Here are this year's skiing flicks, as well as some eye opening surf, skate, and bike films.  Berber Turns: Dave Mossop, of the Rocky Mountain Sherpas shot skiers, like Telluride local Kim Havell, making turns on the high peaks of Morocco. There?s no teaser, but given Mossop?s propensity for getting creative shots, Havell?s shred skills and the backdrop of Marrakesh, I?m going to bet that it?s going to be good.   Desert River: A look at late season skiing in Haines, Alaska, from Sweetgrass Productions. Fall Line Heath Calhoun, who lost both of his legs in Iraq went from losing evry race he entered to becoming a Paralympics contender. The film won most inspiring story at the Five Points film festival.  Dark Side of the Lens A truly beautiful look at soul surfing on the coast of Ireland.  Life Cycles: This is a movie about a bike.   Skateistan: Directed by former professional snowboarder Orlando von Einsiedel, Skateistan looks at skater groms are changing the landscape of Kabul. If you can?t make it to T-ride this weekend, Mountainfilm is going on tour, and it?ll be traveling as far as New York.
