During the months of August and September, hundreds of locals from almost 700 tribal groups travel for days to perform at the annual Sing-Sing festival. They dress in elaborate body paint, headdresses, and wigs that make for some very memorable shots.

Maddie and I got up early last Sunday morning on Ambergris Caye to explore the island as it was awakening. We stumbled across "Adrian's Motorcycle, Bike Repair & Welding" - a small shop on a side street outside of San Pedro. We found Adrian and a fellow pictured above working on this salt-water ravaged motor bike. We named Ambergris Caye as one of our Best Islands to Live On. See why>>>

A reef swim is Roatan?s equivalent of going for a walk through the neighborhood. It?s why people keep their damp swimsuits on all day. But just as I began to think that lazing over the reef and drying off on a hammock was the dream that?s turned so many travelers into retired expats, one such person challenged my thinking. ?Yeah, we can do that here,? he said, showing me miles of empty beach. ?But we don?t retire to veg out and do nothing. Boredom is the enemy. You?ll see what I mean.?

Over 40 countries compete in professional freestyle windsurfing, yet one tiny Caribbean island dominates -- Bonaire. How could an island of 13,000 people with almost no tax base and no formal training facilities produce world class athletes? After the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, Cuba lost $6 billion in Soviet subsidies, and the public transportation system died. There were so few private vehicles and buses running between towns that people formed orderly queues at underpasses, offramps, etc. I stopped at an underpassoutside Havana driving a Hyundai made for five small people. We crammed in 12. The cops waved me over and said, ?Hey, you know it?s illegal to pick up hitchhikers???I panicked; I was already in the country illegally as a journalist. ?That?s OK,? they said, and squeezed in so I could give them a lift. ? Jad DavenportRead about misadventures while driving in Cuba>>>

Today marks the 66th anniversary of the bikini. On July 5, 1946, French designer Louis Reard unveiled a daring two-piece swimsuit at the Piscine Molitor in Paris. The garmet was named after Bikini Atoll where the US had tested a nuclear bomb just 5 days earlier. Rard hoped the burst of excitement it caused would be as explosive as an atomic bomb. See every ISLANDS cover featuring a bikini>>>

I took this shot at approximately 7am on St. George's Island, FL. I wanted to try and capture a nice sunrise, but when I saw the view from the boardwalk, I couldn't resist. I particularly liked the leading lines from the handrails to the center of the image.

I went to this small reserve shortly after arriving on the island, scouting for potential sunset locations. I came away a bit disappointed due to the lack of rocks or anything else interesting on the beach. As I walked back up the hill to my car, I sat down on the grass next to this bench to have a bit of a rest (hey it was a hot day and the hill is steeper than it looks!). As I looked out towards the sea I realized what an amazing view it was right there and then! I unpacked my gear and took a few snaps while still sitting on the grass. I'm glad I did because this turned out to be one of my favorite shots.
