Brits choose holidays in the UK to allow more breaks away

A new survey of over 2,500 respondents has found many Brits would rather holiday in the UK and Ireland than go abroad.
The survey conducted by car hire comparator Carrentals.co.uk, found that nearly a third of respondents chose the UK and Ireland as their favourite holiday destination, despite the wide selection of locations to pick from, including France, Turkey, Portugal and Egypt. Spain is the second most popular destination, preferred by 16% of holidaymakers.
A recent poll by Carrentals.co.uk also found that many Brits are planning more holidays this year compared to 2011, with nearly 50% of respondents budgeting for extra holidays despite the poor economy. Only 1 in 5 people in the poll said they were cutting back on their breaks away, claiming they will be going on holiday less in 2012 compared to last year.
Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, Gareth Robinson, said: "These results show that our customers are choosing to book holidays in the UK and Ireland in order to have more breaks away this year. When considering the national and global events surrounding the UK this year, such as the Queen's Jubilee and the Olympics, it's not surprising that many people have realised the great holiday options on offer in the UK."
The survey also shows how the Internet is the preferred method for booking a holiday, with 74% of respondents securing their trips online, compared to 19% preferring to book face-to-face with a travel agent and just 8% over the phone.
Gareth Robinson commented: "The range of deals available online now is extensive and people are becoming more aware of the amount of money they can save through searching the web for the best available offers."
Carrentals.co.uk is an award-winning car hire comparison site which compares the best deals from up to 50 rental companies including, Europcar, Alamo and Hertz. The comparator offers car hire in 15,000 locations across 150 countries worldwide and in all major tourist destinations.
