Search data from WhichBudget.com, the free flight search engine and destination finder, indicates that UK searches to sunny sporting destinations significantly increased this Spring during February and March as the bleak Winter weather continued and encouraged Brits to seek out sunnier climes. While searches for flights to big sporting event destinations later in 2011 (Indian Grand Prix, Rugby World Cup in Auckland) actually dipped in February and March by as much as 66%, searches to Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh for the Cricket World Cup were up by as much as 55%, and up by a quarter (24%) to Monaco (with flights to Nice) as Brits plan to head there in May for the Monaco Grand Prix.Commenting on the search data, Martino Matijevic, CEO and Founder at WhichBudget.com said; ?The UK has had a particularly bleak Winter weather-wise, which may explain this upsurge in searches for Spring sporting breaks in sunnier climes. When the sky is grey for months on end and you can find a good value flight via a quick search, who wouldn't want to head to Sri Lanka, India or Monaco to indulge in warm weather and a favourite hobby?"
