Galway Arts FestivalGalway's arts spree is carefully curated ? just enough to make a ferry across to the Aran Islands afterwards a good way of revelling in the memories. Among the highlights are DruidMurphy, Druid's acclaimed tale of Irish emigration; a staging of Pat McCabe's novel The Butcher Boy; art by the satirical hero of Berlin dadaism George Grosz; and Lynne O'Loughlin and Pete Ray's take on Ireland's abandoned environments in Ghost Train. Comedy includes Terry Alderton, Michael Winslow and Reginald D Hunter, while in the streets you'll find sound art from Ray Lee, as well as the near-essential appearance of giant mechanical beasts, here from Catalan company Efimer.Various venues, to 29 JulFood festivals, NationwideOverindulgence is easy this weekend, in England at least, with several food and drink festival feasts. Celeb chef James Martin pops up at the 3 Star Indulgence Food Festival (Festival Place, Basingstoke, Sat, Sun). Also in Hampshire, Pylewell Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival (Lymington, Sat, Sun) is four-star posh, with a champagne bar and Edible Ornamentals. In Oundle, Sue MacGregor chairs a food debate (Various venues, Sat). Leigh Village Food Festival (Sherborne, Sat) crams the village hall with regional treats, and there are more than 3,500 cheeses at the International Cheese Awards (Nantwich, Wed). Hope you've got your antacid stomach tablets.Monster Truck & Destruction Derby, SkegnessForget the weather. You won't care if it's raining when you're gawping at a monster truck crushing cars with its oversized cartoon wheels. Noise, mechanical carnage, garish colours and more noise ? plus the wafting odour of the burger vans ? will overwhelm the senses as cars wreck their trailing caravans in true Top Gear fashion, hotrods roar loud enough to burst your eardrums, mini-stock cars battle it out, and the emergency services put their speeding abilities to alternative use in races against each other.
