In praise of ? Bridlington | Editorial

There's a glorious majesty to the thousands of gannets and guillemots that can be seen from high up on Bempton Cliffs"Why go all the way to Bondi when you can come here to Bridlington?" asks Rupert Grint in a new advertisement to promote staycations. Like asking what the Romans have ever done for us, there is a sizeable list of answers. The temperature today in Bridlington is 11C. The temperature in Sydney is 22C. Bridlington Priory has an impressive ring of eight bells. Sydney has an opera house. You can watch football in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division in Bridlington. You can watch Test cricket in Sydney. But even so, who wants to sit on a plane for 23 hours to get there? And better a few family walks in the fresh air enjoying the untroubled charms of the Yorkshire Wolds than a frantic fortnight of airports and sunburn. Sharks and koalas are all very well, but there's a glorious majesty to the thousands of gannets and guillemots that can be seen from high up on Bempton Cliffs.
