21% of Brits will miss out on a holiday in 2011
One in four Brits have changed their 2011 holiday plans as a result of summer travel chaos in 2010, while 21% will not be going on holiday at all next year, according to new research commissioned by leading car hire comparison site carhiremarket.com.On a more positive note for the travel industry, the online poll of over 2,000 adults found that 45% of holidaymakers said they will be planning their holiday as usual this year.
Of those who are changing their holiday plans to avoid travel chaos, one in three will stay in the UK for their 2011 annual holiday. 19% of travellers will organise their transport and transfers well in advance and 40% said they will definitely research the credentials of the travel company before they book.
Anel Bruns, EMEA Product Manager at leading car rental comparison site carhiremarket.com, says holidaymakers are wise to adopt a prudent approach to holiday planning and offers some tips for risk-free holiday booking:
1. Do your homework!
With so much information online, it makes sense to do a Google search to find out what other consumers are saying about the company you are thinking of booking with. Visit review sites to find out about hotels and accommodation.
2. Make sure your travel agent is ATOL protected
The only way to protect yourself financially should your holiday company or airline go bust is to make sure that the holiday you have booked is ATOL protected. There are other bonding schemes, but make sure they include all the protection that ATOL provides.
3. Pay by credit card
If you are arranging your own holiday, pay for flights, car hire and accommodation by credit card to provide extra protection.
4.Take out travel insurance
It really is worth it! And make sure your insurance includes airline failure insurance.
5. It can pay to book early
Don?t rely on last minute deals. With the Euro weakening against the pound, destinations like Spain and Greece are going to be very popular in 2011. Whether you are opting for a package holiday, arranging car hire or accommodation, book early to ensure you don?t miss out on your dream holiday experience.
